Why Choose Low-Carbon Steel?

Low-carbon steels, typically containing less than 0.30% carbon, offer excellent formability, weldability, and surface finish at a lower cost than medium- and high-carbon alternatives.

Advantages include:

  • Great for stamping and forming – Excellent ductility and elongation make it ideal for deep drawing or bending.
  • Lower tool wear – Softer composition reduces press wear and extends die life.
  • Excellent surface finish – Suitable for powder coating, painting, plating, or polishing.
  • Affordable material costs – Often the most economical choice for non-load-bearing components.

Common applications include:

  • Appliance brackets and housings
  • HVAC components and coil stock
  • Furniture frames and panels
  • Light-duty fasteners and hardware
  • Electrical enclosures and backplates

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between 1008 and 1010 steel?
1008 has slightly less carbon than 1010, offering better formability for deep-drawn parts. 1010 provides a bit more strength and rigidity.

What edge conditions do you offer?
We offer square edge, round edge, deburred, or full-natural edge, slit and conditioned in-house.

Can you supply low-carbon coil oscillate wound?
Yes. Our oscillate winding allows up to 10–15 times the footage per coil, cutting downtime and scrap.

What’s your minimum order size?
Typical minimums start at 250 pounds per size. Let us know your specs and we’ll confirm availability from stock.

Is your material certified?
Yes. Every shipment comes with mill test reports and full traceability from our ISO 9001:2015–certified facility.
