Our C1095 hardened and tempered spring steel has a normal hardness range of RC 48/51 with typical tensile ranges of 230,000 PSI to 260,000 PSI. If needed, we can offer other hardness and tensile ranges by placing special orders through many of our domestic and off shore producing mills.
Characteristics of C1095 Tempered Spring Steel
The standard finish for C1095 Tempered Spring Steel is Blue Polished. The color of this finish has a deep blue color and the surface has been polished to produce a very smooth surface with typical RA values below 5. This product can also be supplied in a scaleless blue finish or a bright polished finish by special mill order.
Advantages for Blue Polished Tempered Spring Steel
The big advantage of C1095 tempered spring steel is after forming, no heat treating is required which eliminates any distortion problems that would require post heat treat stress relieving. C1095 Tempered Spring steel does have limits on formability, but for many applications, this is a cost savings product compared to using annealed spring steel and post heat treating. For mechanical springs, the cycle life is normally higher than C1075 hardened & tempered spring steel.
A round edge is often specified for this product. In certain applications, a round edge eliminates edge fracture during forming and will extend the cycle life for mechanical spring products. We can provide this product with custom shaped “skived” edges such as #5 de-burred, #4 round edge, # 1 full round edge, #1square edge in ribbon or oscillate wound coils.
Applications for C1095 Hardened and Tempered Spring Steel
Tempered Spring Steel is incredibly versatile, and its uses are nearly endless. Typical applications for C1095 hardened and Tempered Spring steels are:
- Clips
- Springs and coiled springs
- Washers
- Saw blades
- Trowel
- Scrapers
- Doctor blades for pulp mill and printing applications
