Our C1074/C1075 hardened and tempered spring steel has a normal hardness range of RC 44/47 with typical tensile ranges of 208,000 to 230,000 PSI. If needed, we can offer other hardness and tensile ranges by placing special orders through many of our producing mills.
The standard finish for C1074/C1075 Tempered Spring Steel is scaleless. The color of this finish is normally dull grey but can also be provided as a scaleless blue, polished blue, or bright polished if required. Special mill orders may be required for non-standard finishes.
Advantages of Scaleless Tempered Spring Steel
The big advantage of C1074/C1075 tempered spring steel is no heat treating is required after forming. Tempered Spring steel has limits on formability, but for many applications, this is a cost savings product compared to using annealed spring steel and post-heat treating.
In many cases, a round edge will be specified for this product. In certain applications, a round edge eliminates fractures occurring during forming and will extend the cycle life for mechanical spring products. We can provide this product with custom shaped “skived” edges, such as #5 de-burred, #4 round edge, #1 full round edge, and #1 square edge in ribbon our oscillate wound coils.
Typical Applications for Hardened and Tempered Spring Steel

- Clips
- Springs
- Coiled springs
- Washers
- Saw blades
