Alloys & Tempers
1050 Cold Rolled Annealed Spring Steel
Cold rolled and annealed 1050 spring steel offers a balance of strength and workability, making it well-suited for parts that require post-fabrication heat treating. It delivers consistent surface finish and dimensional control for applications like blades, clips, flat springs, and washers.
- Specifications – ASTM A 684-14; RB 82 max.
- Generally used when hardening and tempering is required after fabrication
- Some applications are for brackets, blades, clips, springs and washers
1074/1075 Cold Rolled Annealed Spring Steel
This medium-high carbon alloy combines good formability in the annealed state with excellent hardening response after heat treatment. 1074/1075 is ideal for stamped parts that need strength and resilience, such as spring clips, brackets, and tools.
- Specifications – ASTM A 684-14; RB 88 max.
- Generally used as a medium carbon grade alloy with good forming qualities and good results when hardened and tempered
- Some applications are for brackets, blades, clips, springs and washers
C1074/C1075 Scaleless Blue Tempered Spring Steel
Pre-tempered and scaleless, C1074/C1075 blue spring steel is ready to use without further heat treating. It’s a durable, wear-resistant option for coil, leaf, or recoil springs where a polished finish isn’t required.
- Specifications – RC 44-47 (.010”- .062”); RC 44-50 (.094”-.125”)
- Generally used as medium high carbon alloy with good forming qualities when higher carbon and polished surface are not required
- Some applications are for various types of springs

1095 Cold Rolled Annealed Spring Steel
1095 is the highest carbon content grade among commonly used spring steels, offering exceptional hardness potential and precision formability in the annealed state. It’s often selected for intricate stampings or tight-tolerance shapes that can’t be made from pre-tempered material.
- Specifications – ASTM A 684-14; RB 88 max.
- Generally used when elasticity and fatigue limits are not critical, although it has the highest rated values of the commonly used spring steel alloys
- It is used for intricate shapes that cannot be formed from pre-tempered steel
C1095 Blue Tempered & Polished (BP) Spring Steel
This pre-hardened, polished spring steel features a deep blue finish and high hardness (RC 48–51) right out of the coil. C1095 BP is widely used in electronic connectors, motor brushes, and mechanical springs requiring fine tolerance and spring-back.
- Specifications – Rockwell C 48-51
- Finish – Deep blue & polished
- Generally used for electrical & electronic applications, coil or flat mechanical springs

Why Manufacturers Specify High-Carbon Spring Steel
- High strength & wear resistance: Ideal for parts that must keep their shape under load and friction.
- Excellent elasticity & fatigue life: Grades 1050 through 1095 offer the rebound required in demanding spring applications.
- Tight edge-condition control: Round, square, or full-natural edges reduce tooling wear and improve safety during handling.
- Cost-effective performance: Delivers high hardness without expensive alloying additions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What thicknesses and widths can I order?
We slit as light as .003 and as heavy as .125 thick. Width as narrow as .090 and we can slit up to 36 inch.
Can you supply material oscillate-wound?
Yes. Oscillate (traverse) winding is one of our core packaging services and can boost your press uptime dramatically.
Do you offer blue-tempered strip?
Both C1075 and C1095 are stocked in scaleless & blue-tempered & polished condition for applications needing high hardness out of the box.
What are your minimum order quantities?
Most grades are available starting at 25 pounds per size; call for stock checks on light-gage or specialty tempers.
Will I receive certification?
Mill test reports (MTRs) and Tool King’s ISO 9001 certificate ship with every order for full traceability.
